Cosmil is a fast, privacy-focused, and beautifully designed file manager for macOS created as a modern alternative to Finder. Built with a compiled Rust backend and a lightweight Tauri/Svelte frontend, it solves Finder's most persistent pain points with multi-pane workspaces, on-demand folder sizing, and comprehensive keyboard-driven workflows.

Key Features

Arbitrary Multi-Pane Layouts – Split a single window into dual, tri, quad, or nth-pane layouts to browse and drag files between folders seamlessly without opening dozens of detached windows.
Compiled Rust Performance – Utilizes a native Rust backend and viewport virtualization to calculate folder sizes up to 8x faster than Finder and open folders containing 40,000+ files with zero UI lag.
Advanced Live Search – Build complex queries with AND/OR filter chaining without slow, background database indexers that miss real-time file updates.
Quality-of-Life Fixes – Features real cut-and-paste (⌘X / ⌘V), sidebar drag dropzones, a unified file operation job manager, and side-by-side file conflict resolution with live previews.
Zero Telemetry & One-Time Pricing – Completely offline file operations with zero analytics or tracking, distributed via perpetual one-time licenses rather than recurring subscriptions.

Who Is It For?

Cosmil is ideal for Mac power users, designers, software engineers, and media professionals who need efficient file management, side-by-side directory comparisons, and responsive performance without the clutter and limitations of default macOS Finder.
