Troubleshooting Tracking & Pixels

Step-by-step checklist to debug missing affiliate conversions, webhook verification failures, and cookie attribution issues.

If you've installed the track.js script but sales aren't tracking, follow this diagnostic checklist.

1. Verify the Script is Loading

  1. Open your website in Google Chrome.
  2. Right-click and select Inspect to open Developer Tools.
  3. Go to the Network tab.
  4. Refresh the page and search for track.js.
  5. Ensure the script loaded with a 200 OK status and was not blocked by an adblocker or a CSP (Content Security Policy) error.

2. Verify the Cookie is Setting

  1. Clear your browser cookies for your site.
  2. Navigate to your site with a test parameter: yoursite.com/?ref=tester.
  3. In Chrome Developer Tools, go to the Application tab.
  4. Look under Storage > Cookies > yoursite.com.
  5. Look for the cookie named dma_aff_ref. It should have the value tester.
  6. If the cookie is missing, ensure you don't have a strict Cookie Banner blocking it before consent is given.

3. Verify the Checkout Pass-through

If the cookie sets correctly but the sale doesn't track, the disconnect is happening at checkout.

  • Are you sending the user to a different domain for checkout (e.g., checkout.stripe.com)? If so, did you pass the affiliate ID in the metadata?
  • If you are using an overlay checkout (like Paddle or Dodo Payments), did you include the custom data parameter in the initialization script?

4. Check Webhook Logs

If the affiliate ID was passed correctly, the final point of failure is the webhook.

  • Log into your payment provider (Stripe, Dodo Payments, etc.).
  • Go to the Webhook logs.
  • Look at the specific event (e.g., checkout.session.completed).
  • Check the response code. If Discover Mac Apps returned a 401 Unauthorized, your webhook secret is incorrect. If it returned a 200 OK, the sale tracked successfully!
