Configuring Commission Rules & Rates

Where and how to configure global commission rates, percentage vs fixed bounties, and custom affiliate tiers in Discover Mac Apps.

Commissions are the core incentive of your affiliate program. Discover Mac Apps keeps commission management straightforward and easy to understand using a simple two-level hierarchy.

Accessing Your Commission Settings

  1. Log into your Discover Mac Apps Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to your specific App's Affiliate Program.
  3. In the left sidebar, click on Settings to set your global default rate, or Affiliates to assign custom tiers.

The Hierarchy of Commission Rules

Because you can assign different rates to different affiliates, it's important to understand how they override each other. We evaluate commission rates in this specific order:

1. Affiliate Tiers (Highest Priority)

If you assign an affiliate to a specific Tier (e.g., a "VIP Tier" offering 50%), this overrides the program's default rate. Tiers are perfect for rewarding your top performers or negotiating custom deals with large influencers. You can create as many Tiers as you like.

2. Global Default Rule (Lowest Priority)

This is the standard baseline commission rate that you configure in your program's Settings. It applies to all products, all sales, and all affiliates automatically—unless the affiliate belongs to a custom Tier that overrides it.

[!TIP] Keep your rules simple to start. We recommend creating one strong Global Default Rule (e.g., 30% recurring), and then only creating custom Affiliate Tiers once your program matures and you start negotiating with larger partners.
